Happy Thursday everyone!
Can you believe that in the last year we have grown from zero to over 500!? I am so thankful for every single one of you and I just wanted to thank you for returning to my blog, commenting, and liking my posts! Y’all rock! I plan to have a giveaway soon to celebrate one year of ThisWifestyle, so make sure you keep checking back to have a chance to win some awesome prizes!
Today’s post is related to spring (can you tell I’m ready for warmer weather?)!
Over the past year, my husband and I have dedicated time and effort to making our porch a place where we want to spend our time. We’ve had some success and had to scrap some ideas (namely the twinkle lights that my dog chewed up), but I am finally happy with our porch!
Now that the weather is warming up (it was in the high 60s today!!) we have been able to go out on our porch more often and I’m obsessed. I love spending the evenings outside with a glass of ice tea and watching the sun go down.
1. ADD SOME GREEN
We started doing this last summer. I’ll be the first to admit that we had some major failures before finding something that worked. First, I tried to add some pretty flowers in vase from the Dollar Tree. This looked wonderful until we had our first summer storm and the vase filled with water and the flowers molded…
Then I tried to put my own live plant out there, but a few frosty mornings ended that pretty quick…
I had given up on adding greenery to our porch until my husband stumbled across a macrame hanging plant during one of our Hobby Lobby strolls. We thought it would look awesome on our porch, but it carried a high price tag ($35!). We quickly figured that we could make our own for much cheaper, so we did! We made this macrame hanging plant for less than $12! I love that we made our own because we were able to pick a waterproof plant and found a pot with a hole at the bottom to drain all that rain water! We have had crazy rainy weather since we crafted this, and it has not been impacted by the rain! Also, it sways in the breeze and makes our porch feel like a garden paradise!
I will share how to DIY this macrame plant in a future blog post, so make sure you come back and check that out!
Here is another plant I found at TJMAXX that looks lovely on our little side table. Having another little touch of green really brightens up our space and beings us closer to nature, even if it is fake 😉
Im awful with real plants okay Don’t be afraid to experiment with flowers either! Just make sure they are made of rubber or some other waterproof material!
2. ADD A BIRD FEEDER
We found this bird feeder for $5 at Walmart and made jokes about being an “old couple” since we were getting so excited about having birds come to our porch.
It only took one day for a bird to find its way to our porch, and my husband and I became way too excited. We’ve had lots of little bird friends stop by since we bought this, and it always sparks joy! Plus, hearing their sweet tweeting tunes constantly reminds us of our porch and draws us out there more often!
You can totally make your own with a pinecone, peanut butter, and bird seed if you don’t want to buy one. This method would be a fun craft to do with your kids! Those homeschooling mamas out there could connect this with science and try to claasify the different birds or compare and contrast the different birds that come visit! What a fun way to enjoy the outdoors and take advantage of the space you have!
3. ADD SOME SIGNS
We found this sign last year at the Dollar Tree and it’s a nice little reminder of things to be thankful for and things that we support and are proud of. It literally cost us $1. You don’t have to pick this one, but the Dollar Tree is a great place to find these metal signs.
Hobby Lobby is also a great place to find some signs. Download the Hobby Lobby app and watch out for discounts on metal decor. They usually have 30-40% off each of their different departments at one point or another throughout the month.
Adding a nice sign is a great way to fill up an empty wall and add more color to your outdoor space. A wind chime would also be a good thing to add to your porch!
I hope you enjoyed this post! What do YOU do to enjoy your outdoor space more? Let me know in the comments. Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram @thiswifestyle and if you’re not one of the 500 awesome people following this blog, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?
